We seem to be forgetting two of the big players ?...................... What about SE RACING and of course MONGOOSE...... Then slightly more modern you have people like S&M BIKES. Chris was one of the first rider owend companys... but you do have to take your hat of to SE RACING for some of the funkyest bikes to grace the sport of bmx although they are now made in taiwan as most of the above bikes are. They still have that oldskool feel to them and i think that is down to rider imput or shall i say old skool rider imput by MR TODD LYONS.... nice one SE RACING may there be many more years ahead..... all the best WOODY DWOOD
mongoose mmmm sorry cant agree on that one mass produced volume sales here in the uk and very little quality in the parts used unless it was a supergoose or proclass and even they were noy that great. mongoose second behind raleigh for volume sales in the 80s ------------- __o ---------- _ '\<,_ ----------(_)/ (_) ____
VERY difficult one. You could say that Raleigh had a massive influence in the UK. I know they were only a fair-weather supporter of BMX, but how many kids started on a Burner?
As for contunied influence, Redline, GT and Haro. They've been there through thick and thin, although you could look at some of the smaller companies like Profile, who've been producing high quality products for themselves and others since the early days.
the most innovative companies have been over looked, you lot go on about mongoose and gt but your way off. Jmc were using oval tubing in 77 i think, race inc alloy in 79, rrs had cantilever brakes and concentric bottom brackets around 80-81 and cook bros did the ahead set in 81 too. wide bars, cook bros, flat pedals patterson. get with it you youths. the gt box section bike was a pile of shite that used to break all the time just ask dale, as for raleigh burners get a grip they were shit and never were anything other than shit. haro's were a CW copy. ashtabula
